The Tutu Project

I came across the Tutu Project today, just moments after meeting a woman who had recently beaten breast cancer. It touched me. Deeply.

The charity is American, but the sentiment is Global.

In 2003 photographer Bob Carey's wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, so he did what any good husband would do....he put on a pink tutu!

Carey has worn the symbolic pink tutu across the globe, from the New York City Metropolitan Opera House to Germany. His goal was to make his wife smile, but he's done so much more! The Tutu project has become a symbol of hope. Proceeds raised go to The Carey Foundation, established in 2012 by survivor Linda Carey to aid in supporting women and their families that need financial support during their breast cancer journey.

Finding the Perfect Fit

Buying a bra can be a stressful experience, but it doesn't have to be. That's right, it can be...wait for it....fun!  Our helpful hints will guide you to the perfect fit, however we do recommend a professional fitting once every 6 months.

Tip 1: It's all in the band
       
A band that's too tight or too loose won't offer the support you need and can even cause discomfort. It's a common misconception that the support in a bra comes from the straps. A properly fitted band that lies snugly, flush against the body will offer the perfect support and lift.  If your bra band rides up when you lift your arms, it's too big. If it leaves painful, red marks on your body, it is....drum roll please....too tight!

Tip 2: Cup size matters

Back fat. Cup-cake top. We all dread it, many of us have struggled with it. This is a sure sign that your cups are too small. Breast tissue extends towards the armpit and your breasts should be totally encased in the cups.You wouldn't leave the house in trousers that were a size too small, show your breasts the same courtesy and they will thank you. I promise. In contrast, a cup that wrinkles and puckers is too small.

Tip 3: Have an open mind

Like buying a pair of new jeans, no two bras fit alike. There are slight size discrepancies between bra manufacturers and even different styles within the same brand. You may often have to try a size up or down to find the perfect fit. Try on different styles to see what suits your frame. You may love a moulded cup but it may not love you. With an open mind, a wee bit of patience and a visit to a trained bra fitting consultant you will be able to find *THE* bra that was made with your body shape in mind.

As you're all well aware by now, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. This is a cause near and dear to our hearts at Dahlia's and we will be donating £1.00 for every bra sold in the month of October to Breast Cancer Care.

Breast Cancer Care is a wonderful charity offering help and support to anyone affected with breast cancer. They offer free resources to help raise breast cancer awareness in the UK. These include breast health promotion, early detection, treatment and support when it's needed most. These services are a valuable part of our community and a lifeline to those that are facing one of the scariest times in their life.

Breast Cancer Care also campaigns for a healthy body image after breast cancer. 88% of women affected by breast cancer say that the disease and it's treatments have left them with a negative body image, 68% saying it has affected their intimate relationships.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, and being breast aware can save your life!
